Women Don't Owe you Pretty By Florence Given

Women Don’t Owe You Pretty 4/5 This book by Florence Given is such an empowering book. It makes you feel heard and seen even when some of the topics are quite taboo and not spoken about. The book has different pages on different subjects which come with amazing illustrations by the writer herself. The drawings are stunning and she has captured real, beautiful women even with flaws that society has reinforced. Her writing perfectly captures what it is like for women in this modern world and she has embodied how hard it is to navigate certain parts of your life such as dating, anxiety and men. The colours within this book pop out at you and every page has a different design or image which she has drawn. I love that about the book as it shows her creativity, and you feel like it is an older sister talking to you or a friend or a mum. This book is amazing for women of all ages however young women would benefit from reading this book as it makes them feel seen and heard. I am a young ...

The Housemaid By Freida McFadden

The Housemaid 5/5 Freida McFadden…WOW. This book is excellent and a perfect thriller. This is one of my favourite books that I have read. The book has so many twists and turns, that it keeps you guessing until the end. The book follows Millie navigating a rich family and their secrets. Nina and Andrew Winchester are part of that rich family and they have a daughter called Celeila however, nothing is as it seems. The book has so many twists and turns, that you do not suspect anything which leaves you with the urge to read more and finish this thriller. The characters are very well-written, you can picture the characters in your mind. One of my favourite aspects of the book is that Freida McFadden allows you to use your imagination and picture the scene playing out in your mind which shows how powerful her writing is. In every chapter (no matter how short it is) you discover something new and a new secret with the characters. Therefore, not all chapters are boring or overl...

It Ends With Us By Colleen Hoover

Image
It Ends With Us 2/5 It Ends with Us is an ok book by Colleen Hoover about toxic and complicated relationships. The book starts with a young woman called Lily, who is trying to start her own life by owning a flower shop. She comes across Ryle who is a highly intelligent surgeon who has a liking towards Lily. I think the book is a great way to promote abusive relationships and the idea of those relationships being nice and loving at the start without the abuse. The book was an easy read and I kept wondering if Lily was ever going to leave Ryle or go to her other lover Atlas (who is a chef but was homeless when he met Lily). I think Colleen's writing was good and raised awareness of the difficulty of leaving a relationship such as Lily’s and Ryle’s as you remember how they used to be and being in love with their good qualities. I do think the book is quite predictable in part and I hate the pregnancy trope which many books like these use. That could just be a personal thing ...
